CINCINNATI, OHIO — Streetside Brewery, located in Columbia Tusculum, has announced it will release its first barrel aged sour beer on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10:00 a.m. The beer, named “All in the Family,” is a Blonde American Wild Ale aged in wine barrels.
“Building a sour program has been one of our goals since we opened a year ago,” said Garrett Hickey, Streetside Brewery Managing Brewer and Founder. “Luke [Shropshire], our Lead Brewer, has been home brewing sours for years, and they are his passion. We’re excited to bring the fruits of our labor to the masses,” Hickey continued.
However, the beer would not have been possible without a little help from family members, as its name implies. A relative of Hickey’s owns the award-winning Vineyard 511 in the Diamond Mountain District of Napa Valley. In November 2016, a month after Streetside Brewery opened, the relative offered the brewer six high-quality wine barrels made from 100% French Oak and used only twice. Thanks to another member of the Streetside extended family – this time a relative of Streetside’s builder – the barrels were transported across the country and arrived safely in Cincinnati. Hickey and Shropshire wasted no time in filling the pristine barrels with their newly formed sour recipe.
“All in the Family” Blonde American Wild Ale is a combination of sour blondes fermented with different wild yeasts and souring bacteria resulting in light funk, bright citrus, mellow oak and lemon zest. The beer checks in at 6.7% ABV and will age for years when cellared properly.
“All in the Family” is just the first beer in a series the brewers are calling the Streetside Cellar Series. A Saison is currently in the Streetside conditioning tank, waiting to be bottled, while a barrel aged Berliner Weisse, “Brett in Berlin,” has already seen a keg release.
A limited amount of “All in the Family” 750ml bottles will be available for purchase starting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. The cost is $16 per bottle and includes a Streetside-branded wine pull.
About Streetside Brewery
In November 1788, the intersection of a dream and a pioneering spirit ignited Benjamin Stites and 26 others to found the settlement of “Columbia” along the banks of the Ohio near the Little Miami River. Now known as Columbia-Tusculum, Streetside Brewery is proud to be rooted in Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhood.
With the same industrious energy, the Hickey family, Streetside Brewery founders and residents of Columbia-Tusculum, strives to provide a down-to-earth experience with a selection of exceptional craft beer that’s as diverse, and original, as the community they serve. Streetside Brewery beers run the gamut from IPAs and Wheats to Lagers and Stouts and specialty beers are featured seasonally.
