Fresh Label Friday 12.8.17

Alright, alright, alright, let the weekend begin! Before we get to the labels, here’s a few tidbits from around the area.

Did you enjoy yourself last weekend at the Braxton Winter Block Party, aka Dark Charge Day? I sure did. The weather was great and everything seemed well run. The chili from Molly Malones was amazing and a bargain at $4 with a big ol’ piece of cornbread. I only wish I had gotten over to check out the coffee. I did get my lips on some Bourbon County Reserve. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. However, the sour from New Belgium was the highlight of my day.

Great Lakes fan? The Cleveland based brewery announced their 2018 Release Calendar.

On the lookout for some ‘Winter/Christmas’ beers, had a nice rundown of local brews of that persuasion, click here for the article.

This Saturday at 10am, Streetside Brewery is the first beer from their Cellar Series — All In The Family . To read more about the release, click here.

This weekend, Tom Aguero from Brewminds, Rick Armon and a few others will be judging beers at Thirsty Dog in Akron for their King of the Ohio Stout competition. Last year, the inaugural King of Ohio competition showcased IPAs, with Hoof Hearted winning. Look for the results to be announced soon.

In Ludlow, apparently Bircus Brewing is now open.

Okay, let’s do this…Here’s some fresh newly approved beer labels from the area. Short and sweet again this week. Disclaimer: These labels are approved by the TTB but there is no guarantee that these will be released.

Ballast Point — Aloha Sculpin

Bircus — Kilpatrick’s One Legged Irish Style Stout

Hoppin’ Frog –Happy New Year’s Eve 2018

Hoppin’ Frog — Guru of the Dark

Listermann — Pastry Life

Now this is interesting. A Bareleywine Style Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels with Cocoa Nibs, Raspberries and Vanilla. Interesting that it’s a collaboration with The Party Source and has the barrel image similar to the old Quaff Bros. And what’s with the ‘Bil’ in the clouds? Mystery? Hey look. Listermann acknowledges they are in Cincinnati and not Norwood!

Platform — Easy Tiger

No only is ‘Easy Tiger’ a fantastic album by Ryan Adams, it’s also a Double IPA with Mango from Platform up in the CLE.

Platform — Passiflora

Part of ‘The Series’, 12 Kettle Sours, 12 Releases, 12 Months. This is a Berliner Weisse Style Ale with Passion Fruit.

Upland — Peach

Mmm, peaches. Enough said.

Urban Artifact — Pocket Watch

West Sixth — Cerveza

I once considered (pipedream) a Mexican inspired brewery named Cerveza as a homage to my family roots. This brew, you guessed it, is a Mexican Style Lager.
